Heritage can encompass a mosaic of stories and relics from many diverse cultures. Recognising the importance of preserving this heritage, the Independent Heritage Network (IHN) is developing a new inclusive community dedicated to the preservation, education, and promotion of these historical assets. The IHN aims to cultivate a sense of belonging and identity among its members, offering abundant opportunities for social interaction, knowledge exchange, and support.

Aims

1. Unite and empower the founding organizations to create a collaborative and sustainable heritage network.

2. Preserve and promote Leicester’s diverse heritage and community media history on a local, national, and global scale.

3. Provide accessible resources, exhibitions, and programs for education, research, and cultural engagement.

Objectives

1. Foster Collaboration: Facilitate joint initiatives between the Documentary Media Centre, Museum of Community Media, Conflict Memory Education Centre, and Parallel Lives Network Archive to maximize impact.

2. Enhance Accessibility: Develop physical and digital platforms for community engagement, ensuring inclusivity for all audiences.

3. Deliver Programs and Events: Host exhibitions, workshops, training sessions, and heritage-focused events to engage diverse communities and promote cultural learning.

4. Preserve Cultural Assets: Maintain and expand archives and collections, emphasizing underrepresented voices and global narratives.

5. Promote Sustainability: Secure funding and establish revenue streams to support long-term operations and growth of the network.

6. Advocate for Heritage: Strengthen partnerships with educational institutions, cultural organizations, and policymakers to amplify the value of heritage and media.
