Leicester’s ‘Military History Live’ event between 4-6th June at Adult Education (Belvoir Street) is an opportunity to find out about the conflicts from the past that shape our world today.
Covering the last 500 years, ‘Military History Live’ provides an opportunity to find out about Leicester’s involvement in these conflicts, the involvement of its soldiers and those left behind on the home front.
There are ‘cafe conversations’ about internment, conscientious objectors, prisoners of war, those shot at dawn for desertion or cowardice and many more.
A full programme includes a book launch on Thursday 4th and talks on both Friday 5th and Saturday 6th June. This makes the event worth attending for those with an existing interest in military history and those looking to find out about their own families involvement.

The recently refurbished Adult Education building on Belvoir Street will play host to the 3 day event that includes something for everyone including students. All the events including the book launch, short talks, a guided walk are free to attend. Visit the Lower Gallery to view 2 exhibitions – Life in War by Iranian photographer Majid Saeedi (supported by Charnwood Arts) and entries from the Historic England and SDSA supported School’s First World War art competition.
This is a great opportunity to discuss military campaigns with re-enactors who are enthusiastic hobbyists and willing to share their knowledge.
