Documentary Media Centre presents our 4th FREE city centre heritage event on Saturday 11th May between 10:00 – 15:00 at the Leicester Adult Education Centre on Belvoir Street.
Saturday Heritage Fairs provide a meeting point for individuals and community groups in the early stages of developing a heritage collection and those looking to grow an existing collection; to display what they have, seek feedback, find volunteers and people able to support them develop their heritage collection.
There is also a developing Independent Heritage Network offering other local events, media content support, fundraising advice and a growing selection of helpful courses, e.g. How to begin cataloguing your collection etc.
These Saturday Heritage Fairs are also open to the public to explore and engage with free talks, showcases, and screenings on offer.

09:00 The Old Library Cafe opens in Leicester Adult Education Centre, 54 Belvoir Street, LE1 6QL.
10:00 Hansom Hall opens with heritage stalls – see list of Exhibitors below.
10:00 Language Cafe hosted by Carole Clohesy opens in The Old Library Cafe area supported by local author, Andy Goss.
The Language Cafe is an opportunity to enjoy conversations in English with people from all communities and backgrounds. Bring along any object that you wish to share about your own heritage. Children welcome.
11:00 Workshop: Museum in a Box – join this FREE workshop to build your own Museum in a Box – please bring along some personal items you’d like to include e.g. photos, maps, documents, cuttings, objects like badges etc. All construction materials supplied. Children welcome. Hosted by Tina Barton, Director of Education & Engagement at the Documentary Media Centre (Hansom Hall – 90 mins)

12:30 Talk: A Social History Initiative for the Community by Nick Laband (Digital Media Hub – 30 mins)
13.30 Talk: Local author, Andy Goss will talk about his latest novel, Cold Coffee in Asmara …. also share how to get started on your writing journey, doing background research and deciding the right route to publish for you (Alcove, The Old Library Cafe – 30 mins)
14:00 Talk & Tour: Contemporary Sikh Art Exhibition (E1 Classroom – off Basement Gallery – 30 mins)

There will be a Language Cafe run in the Old Library Cafe by Carole Clohesy and an opportunity to share your story of living or arriving in Leicester with Dr Rob Watson of Decentered Media. Rob will have his audio recording kit in partnership with Soar Sound Radio and De Montfort University.
